Road Safety Campaign on Facebook

image

Please take a look at the ‘Slow Down For My Horse Campaign’ page on Facebook. It’s trying to raise awareness of the serious dangers faced on the roads by horse riders.
I think that it’s a great idea and it’s certainly creating a stir in the UK!

Not long left ?

This is an oldish photo of a lovely little chap called Buttons. When he was 4 years old he became ill and an Xray revealed a large abdominal tumour that could not be removed.
He was prescribed steroid tablets (for the rest of his life) and was given about 6 weeks to live.
This photo was taken 6 YEARS later and Buttons was still going strong. I split up with my boyfriend and, during the split, Buttons started to go downhill. I couldn’t take him with me as I was moving into short-term rented accommodation; also I wanted my cats to stay in their home (my boyfriend and I had a fairly good sized farmhouse with outbuildings and land which the cats loved).
I left the house and never saw Buttons or my other 5 cats again. My ex wouldn’t allow contact of any kind, so I couldn’t even ask how the cats were.
I didn’t really care about losing my home, but the pain of losing my cats never leaves me 😦

Pine Marten seen in England for the first time in 100 years

image

A pine marten has been seen in Shropshire – the first positive sighting of this mammal in England for 100 years.
The pine marten lives in and around woodland and is nocturnal.
They have been persecuted by man for game, fur, and as vermin and were hunted by dogs for sport in the past.
Another reason for their decline is habitat destruction, though the Forestry Commission recognised this and began to protect the pine marten.
